The column chart compares the lowest and highest levels of two air pollutants, Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) and Dinitrous Oxide (NO2), in four cities in 2000: Los Angeles, Calcutta, Beijing, and Mexico.
Overall, the average presence of these two air polluting ingredients in Mexico was significantly higher than in the other three cities. The higher levels of Sulphur Dioxide and Dinitrous Oxide in Mexico indicate that air pollution is worse in this city than in the other three.
As shown in the graph, the level of Sulphur Dioxide in Los Angeles' air ranges from 1 to 10, which is significantly lower than that of other cities. In Mexico, the presence of this air pollutant ranges from 80 to 200, with 200 being the highest. The minimum SO2 level in Calcutta is 47 and 25 in Beijing, but the maximum range in Beijing is 130, which is more than double that of Calcutta.
On the other hand, the presence of the second air polluting material - dinitrous oxide - could be found in greater quantities in Mexico City's air than in any other city in the illustration. Mexico had a minimum level of N2O of 113, which was nearly ten times higher than Beijing and four times higher than Calcutta and Los Angeles. Los Angeles had a higher upper level of N2O presence than Calcutta and Beijing.
