Coming from a small place like Hong Kong, I find that traveling to any other country is quite "liberating," since I no longer feel the need to worry about "getting lost" in a larger world. Nonetheless, my trip to Germany was just like something out of a book.

When I first met a German coworker who was also employed by my organization, I was immediately intrigued. However, I began making preparations for my trip when he left Hong Kong after his employment contract ended and offered me to visit his country in the summer. Since I enjoy exploring new places on my own, I naturally traveled there by myself.

There was an overwhelming abundance of attractions in Germany. My German friend lives in the city of "Cologne," so the first thing I did when I got there was to take a cruise down the Rhine and take in the breathtaking scenery of the German countryside, complete with picturesque landscapes, stately old castles perched on nearby hills, and vineyards that stretched as far as the eye could see. Then I visited the Cologne Cathedral, a gothic architectural marvel that is almost 700 years old and on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Apart from other great German meals, I especially adored the pastries from the pastry shops in literally every corner of Cologne so much that I thought I was going to waste all my holiday money on pastries!

However, it was the country's deep historical roots that made my time there the most memorable. German is perhaps Europe's most beautiful and diverse country, with several one-of-a-kind attractions and experiences to be had. It's rare to have such an up-close look at people who are so self-controlled and methodical in their everyday lives and in the creation of such extraordinary innovations.

Whenever I have a chance to travel, I try to see new cities or visit sites that have been recommended to me by friends. I went to Holland with a friend on one of these trips. I'd like to reminisce about this trip we took exactly two years ago.

Amsterdam, The Hague, and Rotterdam were three places in Holland that we were both eager to see after hearing so many glowing reports about the nation from other travelers. We then submitted our visa application, purchased aircraft tickets, reserved a hotel room, and ultimately set off on our journey.

Prior to our trip, we put in a lot of time reading up on all the cool things to do. We saw the Rijksmuseum, the Van Goghmuseum, and the Amstel Beermuseum, as well as took a sunset boat around the waterways, drove to Volendam, a small and charming fisherman hamlet, and stopped by a cheese farm. Rotterdam, the Dutch city famous for its architecture and its role in fostering innovation, was our destination. We had as much fun exploring the various buildings and structures as we did strolling along the beaches. My trip to the Anne Frank house was a highlight of my trip to Amsterdam. It was thrilling to visit the location described in Anne Frank's diary, which I read as a young child.

We took advantage of Amsterdam's many canals by going for long walks along their banks each night. All around town, people gathered to watch the street performers.

Everything was wonderful, but being in such a stunning country made it all the more so. I had a great time on this vacation because I brought a friend along. As first-time visitors to Holland, we found the whole experience to be novel and intriguing. We were really interested in the people and their unique take on cultural norms. Just before we left, we both agreed that this was a fantastic destination and that we would definitely return to explore further.

To me, travel is always a good time. Not only does it keep us amused, but it also serves as a useful tool for shedding light on a variety of previously undiscovered topics. The best part about traveling is all the new information you can learn. The wisdom gained from personal experience can't be read about or bought in a book. It's clear that tourism has been popular for some time now. However, there are instances when trips are less than ideal, and travelers have to deal with a variety of unpleasant surprises.

Since I'd never been on a train before, my recent trip was the most exciting experience of my life. My childhood friend is getting married, and I wanted to be there to celebrate with him. In order to get to the location where the wedding will take place, your friend will need to take a train from the other side of the country.

Our group of fourteen childhood friends all wanted to travel to the hamlet for the wedding, so we all chipped in to buy train tickets. My pals and his family had already begun the trek to the village before we arrived. We left the house and made it to the train station on the scheduled departure night. Yet surprisingly, an accident on the route to the station caused the train to be delayed by half an hour. After boarding the train, we started our nighttime train adventure.

That was the most exciting thing I've done with my life so far. The voyage itself was fascinating, so I had a great time. I used to listen intently whenever someone detailed their train travel experience, but I was never able to take one myself for various reasons. So, I was the only one of my childhood friends who cheered when the idea was hatched.

This trip is really important to me. When the train finally departed, it was a starry night, and I was sitting right next to a window. The full moon made me feel like I was soaring through the heavens at breakneck speed. In a flash, we'd passed through a forest, and far off, the lights of the cities and towns below me sparkled like stars against the vast night sky. My feelings during that night's travel were too profound to put into words.

My sister and her husband live in Nha Trang, a beach tourist city in southern Vietnam, and that trip is the one I recall most well. My brother-in-law called me sometime in early February 2014 to tell me that my sister had given birth to a healthy baby girl. My brother-in-law told me that my sister-in-law was expecting a baby, and that she and the baby were both doing well.

I dropped everything and headed back to my folks' house to tell them the fantastic and joyous news. My parents were overjoyed by the news of the birth, and they intended to come see me and my sister the next day. In order to make good time, we left bright and early the following day, clocking in at more than 10 hours of travel.

We visited the nearby train station and scored three first-class tickets. Train travel is my preferred mode of transportation because, unlike long bus rides, it allows me to stretch my legs and do things like wander from car to car, read a book in peace, have a meal in comfort, peruse a bookstore or magazine rack, use the restroom, and take in the sights of the countryside. I had a relaxing trip and was able to read all of the book I brought along. In addition, I buy a newspaper and two magazines from the station every day to read. I recall the trip in particular because my parents were in tow; they relished the opportunity to get away from the house after a lengthy period of confinement. It was a wonderful and unforgettable trip, made even better by the anticipation of finally meeting the newborn. My mom told me some stories from when I was a kid that she'd never told me before, and my dad told me about his first time on a train, which made us all laugh out loud.
